A super targeted effective postcard campaign can land you thousands of eager prospects, but not if the design causes your potential prospects to file it straight in the trash.

Here are some tips to help your next postcard campaign achieve the best results possible.   A picture is worth a thousand words, well this is especially true for print marketing.  Your postcard has to compete with every other piece of mail in the box, we have to do whatever we can to make it stand out and capture the readers attention.   The more effort you put into your postcard design, the better your results will be.

First, the headline; this must be clear and bold.  The headline should tell your prospects what exactly you do and leave no doubt as to whom you are.

The image you use should clearly identify your business and correspond to your marketing message, this is not the time to try and be slick with your choice of image.  Remember your postcard is probably being read over the trash can.

Your choice of colors is equally important, you want every part of the postcard to stand out and POP.   Even if you use color choices that typically don’t blend well if they grab the readers attention it’s a win.

We can’t say enough about this one BENEFITS, BENEFITS, AND MORE BENEFITS; list the benefits of your product or service NOT the features.   For example if you sell mortgages, a lower interest rate is a feature.  The lowering of your payment is the benefit.  Always concentrate on the benefits.

All postcard campaigns should include a special offer that is time sensitive, if your intent is to get someone to call you or go to your website a time sensitive offer is your best bet.

Your company logo and name should be on the mailer but it should not overshadow the offer, remember your customers are concerned with what you can do for them.  That needs to be the focal point of the campaign.

Always include a clear call to action, do not assume anyone will know the best way to get ahold of you.  Include your contact information and the easiest way for them to contact you.  Also remember to use a return address if your mailing to a targeted list.   If your marketing to a specific list on a scheduled basis having a return address on the mail piece will tell you if you have bad addresses.    The smart marketer will market to the same list on an ongoing basis, statistically your ad will be seen 5-7 times before a prospect is ready to buy, marketing is not a one time thing.
